Caring for the varnish is caring for the ring.
The ring is real wood under a coat of varnish. Looking after the varnish is what makes it last. No fear needed, normal wear is enough.
How to look after it
Daily wear
Washing hands, the shower, the sea: the varnish is waterproof for that. You can wear it all day.
Take it off
Take it off for a jacuzzi or a long hot bath, strong pool chlorine, acetone or harsh sanitiser. Heat and chlorine are what attack the varnish.
It is not raw wood
You do not oil it like a cutting board. Do not leave it in the car in the sun for days.
If it goes matte or scratches
The varnish goes matte or scratches with use. The limited warranty covers the retouch for normal wear. Structural damage or ruined varnish: repair at a cost (MXN); ask the workshop.
Antler, mammoth and glass
Antler, mammoth-ivory or glass inlays ask for the same care. The varnish is the skin on top.
Can I shower with the ring on?
Yes. The shower and the sea do not harm it, the varnish is waterproof for that. Just take it off for long, hot tub or jacuzzi soaks.
Does it scratch?
Over the years the varnish can go matte or scratch from normal wear. That falls under the limited retouch warranty; heavy damage to the varnish is repaired at a cost.
